Shit, what a drag! I always liked his earlier, hilariously adversarial/ irreverent takes on the 80's& 90's Austin music scene, but as he went on into recent times he got DEEP. He will no doubt be considered one the most important chroniclers of Texas Music. I really look forward to reading his books (tho I've been greatly enjoying excerpts for some time now on his Substack). One of a kind, his style & perspective will be sorely missed.

Love this tribute Tim. Rhett & I never knew we had so much mutual admiration for MC til the news broke and texts started flying back & forth between us. We revisited all of it today. Thank you for this and what you do so faithfully. 🏴‍☠️

I wish that old Chronicle story had the hilarious illustration that was originally printed with it. I suspect Michael drew it - stick figures of attention-hungry musicians. The whole thing was so funny. People were pissed!

Corky found ways to prank me when we worked at the Chronicle. He ticked me off but we always laughed in the end. Loved being fly on the wall when he , Ed Ward, Rob Patterson , Margaret Mosher would tell stories.

My god their musical knowledge was mind blowing. Looked forward to more stories of his via social media. Sigh. I was looking for words from him on Kinky then got hit with this news.

What a loss! While I didn't know Michael personally, he and I had corresponded a few times and he was always gracious and funny. His work on James Hand's music and life exposed me to that great artist and the pleasures of his music. Michael Corcoran will sure be missed!

This is a beautiful tribute. It’s been a hard week for those of us who write for a living with the loss of MC, Laurie Lindeen, and Robert Towne.
