Not sure if you're aware of the Magic Tramps who came up the same time frame at Mercer. They were instrumental in getting the Dolls to play there after their debut.
Yes, definitely late 60s/early 70s rock. This is listed as Magic Tramps, but actually is Messiah as there was no singer. The club they played at in LA was Temple of the Rainbow.
I was good friends with them in their previous incarnation (Messiah) when they were in LA for a bit. Still close with the surviving members. What genre would you say they were?
Thanks Tim.Can't wait for part #2.. oh, inbetween ..I just heard Brian James passed away. This is getting outa hand!
Such a character. Such a life! Looking forward to the rest of the story.
Thanks, Ken. Did you ever photograph the Dolls, or at least The David Johansen Group?
Unfortunately I did not.
Thanks for such a comprehensive history,
Thank you, Barbara. More coming, over the next few days!

Well aware of Eric Emerson and The Magic Tramps, yes.
Their music is all over YouTube. Below is some.

Once Eric crashed the band, then they had a singer (kind of).

Wonderful, not everyone is so informed.

Hard to say, without having heard a note. I am just aware of them. But I understand they played '70s rock?
Thank you Tim for this wonderful tribute article in detail. So sad all our heroes are going elsewhere.
Thanks, Lori. And it isn't finished--more ove the next few days!
