The story of the Small Face/Face/auxiliary Stone/first-call rock ‘n’ roll keyboardist/longtime Austin resident, with guest appearances from Ron Wood, Kenney Jones, Billy Bragg and Rod Stewart.
Thank you, Tim, for this utterly lovely memory. Mac's work is transcendental (if I may be so bold) and, along with Nicky Hopkins, was one of the finest pianists in rock and roll.
The Small Faces were just a tad before my time, but the Faces were definitely competing for my attention alongside Bowie, Roxy Music, and the rest of the Glam Gang. And while Rod Stewart was, inevitably, the focal point of the band, the ‘music’ behind him was irresistible. Key to that was Ian McLagan’s piano and organ playing, which to my untrained and inexperienced cloth ears, sounded utterly unique.
And now, all these years later, I still believe them to be unique.

Lovely, lovely tribute, Tim!

The Faces meant so much to me.
Another awesome, respectful portrait, Tim. Bravo!
