Excellent analysis. As a wise man once said, "Purists can blow me." Oh wait, that was me.

One of your best that I’ve read Tim!

I really enjoyed this movie. I laughed a lot but not derogatory laughter. Great performances all around.

Addendum to your comments about Busey’s Buddy: Having watched the taped-off-HBO movie a few times, I think it’s safe to say that unlike Busey, I don’t think the real Buddy Holly was playing barre chords…

This sounds like my type of movie. I like period close representations and Dylan....I think he is a bit of a avatar type person who constantly changes so he does not get boxed in to being one sound. That probably does not make sense to some people. I think people who constantly change and are not afraid of totally reinventing themselves are interesting. Better to totally bring the unexpected and leave the past behind to further what you are doing and what you are inspired to do at the time than get stuck in the expected and never breath new creative air.

It's also to keep a distance between himself and the rest of the world. It's a coping mechanism. He likes to be able to say that no one knows him.

A lot of people that are on the public eye with their work do this. He just did it on a large scale. I have worked in filmmaking and get it.
