Sorry, I’ve Been Busy Finishing My Second Book!
Will you accept this vintage video from The Saints as an apology?
I know this week started out promising—I posted three days in a row! I was honestly aiming for a five-day posting schedule to live up to my initial promise: a workweek’s worth of writing, all in an effort to get back to making a living scribbling about punk/rock ‘n’ roll/pop culture. I failed.
Or maybe I didn’t? I was splitting my time between The ‘Stack and finishing My Second Book, which My Publisher still won’t let me announce. (And no, I don’t mean Anarchy In The Studio, whose presale I’ve been assured is happening any day now! Believe me, I’m just as anxious to announce that as you are to throw your credit card at it.) I’m aiming to finish My Second Book by Sunday night, but then I suddenly got regular shifts at The Day Job again—which meant something had to give.
Welcome to What Had To Give!
I feel I owe you an apology. I can’t juggle everything I have to do, though I try hard. So, may I offer this vintage clip of The Saints—stars of an extensive box set review coming next week—performing the incredible “This Perfect Day” on Top Of The Pops on July 14, 1977? Chris Bailey’s pathological urge to short-circuit expectations as a performer hilariously kicks into overdrive here. He refuses to lip-sync properly, even destroying the illusion of functioning mics! It’s one of the most brilliantly subversive performances ever. See you next week!

You don't need to apologize for ANYTHING, brother Tim.
